You DO NOT Need To Be On Every Social Platform

Unpopular opinion: You DO NOT need to be on every social media platform (or hop on every social trend, but we’ll talk about that in a future post).

If you’re reading this, we are willing to bet that you are feeling the pressure to maintain a digital presence on every platform. You may even be spreading yourself too thin, just trying to pump out content to keep up. With an estimated 5.17 billion total social media users worldwide (Source), it's easy to see why this can feel overwhelming. Does this sound like you?

We get it. Social media is everywhere, not just on our phones, tablets, and desktops but also creeping into our daily, physical lives — cue the rise of ‘brain-rot,’ one of the internet’s latest terms (Source). However, trying to be everywhere, all at once, can not only stretch you and your team thin but may even do more harm than good.

While we agree that having an active online presence is important for brands (think of social media as one of the first places people go to learn about a brand), not all platforms align with your business goals or are even where your target audience is hanging out.

As more users turn to social media as their primary search engine (Source), now is the perfect time to reassess and identify which platforms your target audience is most actively using.

(Psst! We can help you with this through our Strategic Social Media Marketing & Management, Digital Marketing Services, and/or Custom 1:1 Strategy Sessions)

A strategic approach to social media as a part of your broader digital marketing strategy is key to your business’s digital success.

Platforms like TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, BeReal, Threads, Notes, and X (formerly known as Twitter)… the list could go on — all fight for your attention. So, instead of trying to tackle them all, evaluate which platform(s) align with your goals and focus your energy and resources there.

Remember, you don’t need to be on every platform if your target audience isn’t there. And if your brand isn’t ready to expand to additional channels (where your audience is) just yet, avoid simply blasting out content without optimizing it for each platform. Quality over quality, always!

We've seen immediate results firsthand with former client St. Jude’s Ranch for Children, where we crafted a dynamic digital strategy as part of their comprehensive marketing approach. By scaling back on the number of posts and prioritizing high-quality content, we achieved remarkable outcomes. Read the full case study here for more insights.
